Pyeongchang Yukbaekmajigi (평창 육백마지기) - Homepage : tour.pc.go.kr - Tel : +82-33-330-2771 Yukbaekmajigi refers to the peak of Cheongoksan Mountain on the southern side of Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. The large field is the size of six soccer fields and is 1,256 meters above sea level. The name comes from the saying that the field is large enough to spread 600 mal (Korean unit of measure) of rice seeds. Yukbaekmajigi is easy to reach by car and is becoming a popular eco-friendly tourist attraction. The view from the peak includes an open view of 20 large wind power generators on the vast field. Historic Site of Anti-Mongolian Struggle in Hangpadu-ri, Jeju (제주 항파두리 항몽 유적) - Homepage : www.jeju.go.kr - Tel : +82-64-710-6721 Historic Site of Anti-Mongolian Struggle in Hangpadu-ri is where the Sambyeolcho military unit of the Goryeo dynasty resisted the invasion of Mongolia until the last possible moment. The site houses an exhibition hall, a monument, and a unique mud fortress. Nearby is Jangsumul Spring (Jangsu means general) which flowed from the footprints of General Kim Tong-jeong. Today, water from the spring cannot be used as drinking water. Sambyeolcho was a military unit of the Goryeo dynasty. When the Goryeo dynasty made peace with the Mongolian forces in February 1270 (the 11th year of King Wonjong), the Sambyeolcho special defense unit opposed it and launched a resistance movement. It originates from the post-Korean War period, where processed meat from US Army bases was made into a jjigae with vegetables, glass noodles, ramyeon, and the like. While the exact origin of the dish is difficult to establish, a strong tradition of sausage jjigae was established in Uijeongbu, thanks to its proximity to US Army bases. These geographical characteristics created today’s Uijeongbu Budaejjigae Street.
