Yeoju Museum first opened in 1997 as the Yeoju Folk History Museum, surveying and displaying the history and relics of the area. The name changed to the current Yeoju Museum in 2016 with the addition of the Yeoma-kwan Building. The museum features both permanent exhibitions and planned exhibitions, as well as offering special lectures and educational programs.

The sizable 430-square-meter Daeungjeon Hall was built in an open form of the Chinese character "亞" ("ah") in a Southern Buddhist style. The city is often referred to as a “museum without walls” because of the many cultural relics scattered throughout the city. Almost everything in this city, from the streets to the mountains, is rich in history. Gyeongju has roughly 300 sites that have been designated as a cultural heritage, with some of them being UNESCO-recognized World Heritage Sites. The Gyeongju Special Tourist Zone includes the districts of Namsan, Wolseong, Daereungwon, Hwangryongsa, and Sanseong.
