Accessible through steep rocky shores and high waves, it attracts many fishermen seeking black sea bream in winter season due to its abundant seafood and pristine waters.

Its name refers to its location, like a well (jeong) deep within the mountains (san). The lake was originally built during the Japanese Occupation as a water source for agriculture.
